Full course description
Learners will explore the basic anatomy of the cell, as well as microbes, their types and characteristics, and their significance in various biological processes. Learners will also identify the differences between bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa with a focus on the importance of microbial identification and control in various settings in the Operating Room. Participants will also discuss infections, particularly surgical site infections, and possible impacts on the patient and the corporation, at large. Disinfection and sterilization processes of equipment and supplies in the different specialty areas will be reviewed with emphasis on common microbiology specimens.
