Sustainable Construction Waste Management - Cohort 1
This course provides an introduction to how to upcycle and manage waste from construction projects, commercial and industrial operations. It also provides guidance on what can be done at home to manage and reduce waste. Using this content, the micro credential course would be developed and delivered to achieve learning outcomes appropriate to the learner level and interest; a 15-hour course on how to create an effective construction upcycling and waste management plan for trades professionals.
Students who take this course will have an opportunity to discover the importance of waste management to reduce costs, generate a positive return on investment, mitigate environmental impacts, lessen liability, and gain applicable knowledge that can be utilized on the job. Knowledge gained in this course will benefit students and their employers.
Upon completion of this 15-hour micro-credential course students will be able to:
- Create a written waste management plan for new and existing residential construction.
- Build a step-by-step process for waste removal from the point of generation to the disposal containers.
- Develop a Return-on-Investment analysis for waste segregation and management to maximize profit and mitigate environmental impacts.
- Analyze methods, materials, and disposal options for different types of waste.
- Breakdown the key considerations for waste management including risk, quality assurance, and control measures.
- Describe the key waste regulations impacting residential construction projects.
- Describe the basic principles of sustainable waste management.
- Present findings to executive management for support.
